Budget Hotel Stay Managua, Nicaragua

Travelling around Nicaragua in twos can be a tricky beast. Sure, there are hostels everywhere but sometimes you can find that you’re not in the mood to be making small-talk in a 18 bed dormitory. In fact I can safely say that I don’t think I want that ever again!

Budget Hotel Stay Managua

Double jeopardy issue comes into play when you need to tighten your budget on your travel, but you don’t want to pay over the odds for your privacy. Luckily, we stayed in a budget hotel in Managua, which ticked all of the boxes that we needed at the time.

Hotel Vanderbilt provided us with a twin bedroom, with a fridge and air conditioning and 24 hours security – for only $4o per night. I receive a lot of panic-stricken emails from new travellers on their way to this part of the world, concerning theft of their belongings after hearing stories of things being stolen from actual hotel rooms.

This hotel is very secure, so you don’t have to worry about all of that nonsense. There is always someone on front desk, including permanent night time staff and the whole premise is very well locked up and safe. Vanderbilt is a stone’s throw away from a supermarket for when you want to grab a snack from the fridge in your room, the place comes with spacious kitchen amenities and there is also a nearby petrol station for when the road gets too much for you and you need some beers to help you sleep!

Hotel Vanderbilt’s added bonus to its budget stay is that it’s perfectly placed for certain tourist attractions of Managua. Take a sunny ten minute walk to check out the cathedral during the day, or even save it until the night as that’s when it looks more beautiful and all lit up.

If the hustle and bustle of the city is getting to you – no worries! As you’re close to the coast and a 15 minute taxi can get you to your own little personal paradise as soon as you want it. This hotel is a perfect budget stopover for those passing through to and from Leon and Granada. The ideal cheap hub where you can whip out your pen and Lonely Planet in their outside conservatory and plan your next adventure.
